The Sisters’ Show started in 2009 when Emily Ferrell and Monica Schlange were sick and tired of their friends begging them to make them sewn and crafted items! The two sisters decided they would hold an open house and invite said friends to purchase their items. Since then Emily and Monica have started their own little businesses:
Emily is the seamstress behind “DottieJean.” The name is an homage to Emily’s roots as her Grandmother Dorothy (Dottie) and her Mother Jean both were crafter/knitter/seamstress/bakers. It’s in Emily’s blood! Emily loves to make aprons especially but enjoys anything beautiful that enriches the home. She often comes up with fabrics and patterns that are vintage-inspired. Emily also bakes the BEST rolls around the holidays. Place an order for white, wheat or rosemary rolls right away as Emily gets so many orders she has to turn people away!
Monica is the seamstress behind “Mogue.” The name came from a brainstorming session that essentially took Monica’s nickname (Mo) and pressed it together with the fact that she is inspired by vogue designs and rogue thinking. Monica loves to sew. She especially loves to look at things and make up her own pattern for it. She recently moved into a home where she can keep her sewing set up all the time. This excites her to no end.
Emily and Monica are both born-again Christians and enjoy using their talents to serve the Lord and bless people in His name. They also both have good-looking, hard-working, awesome husbands, 2 children each and they live 1/2 mile from each other.
The Sisters’ Show has blossomed over the last year as the sisters have invited a few friends to join them in selling sewn, knitted and crafted items. Emily and Monica try to invite only friends who don’t sell items similar to what they make and sell so there isn’t competition, just good old fashioned fun while making a few bucks! So far the Sisters’ Shows have been in Lakeport, California only.
The Sisters try to have a Sisters’ Show every Spring and Fall. This blog will tell you more about each show as they come up.
After I left the last show (November?), several cars lined the street by Monica’s house. As I got into mine, one of the neighbors asked me,
“Are all these people friends from church, or something?”
I replied, “Yes! I believe most are.”
He said, “Well, they sure draw a crowd! What a great response.”
The neighbors have noticed the popularity! Maybe next time they’ll come, too.
